What if I told you that every single day, the power of suggestion can influence how you remember things and how you behave. You can check out some cool research by Maryanne Garry, Robert Michael, and Irving Kirsch, for more information on the psychology of it.
Today, I want to share with you how you can use the power of suggestion to help increase your sales and profits.
Leveraging the Power of Suggestion
Have you ever gone to a fast food restaurant and ordered a sandwich and maybe a drink and been asked by the cashier, “would you like fries with that?” How did it make you feel? Did you often agree to “supersize” or “bundle” your meal to take advantage of a nice “discount.”
Or when you're out having a nice dinner and the server asks brings over a tray of mouth-watering desserts … Do you become frustrated with the server for suggestion that you should give one a try?
Most likely, in either case, you didn't become upset with the person that leveraged the power of suggestion to increase their sales and profits by suggestion that you buy something you didn't directly ask for. You can use this strategy in your business too.
When your selling your products and services, try the following:
- Offer the highest package first. Typically, your highest priced offer has lots of bells and whistles and offers great savings. Point that out to your customer.
- Offer “bundles” that save your customer money. This is a win-win because your customer gets more bang for her buck while you increase your sales.
- Once they've agreed to a certain product, try to “add on” a product that complements the product they've already ordered. Once a customer has said yes once, psychologically, it's easier for them to say yes again..
Don't be afraid to suggest products and services to your customer. You may be surprised at how much your business grows, just with the power of suggestion.
